WRP & SM Action, MXGP 2023 Round One – Argentina

VILLA LA ANGOSTURA, ARGENTINA – The MXGP 2023 world championship starts from Argentina, where the first of nineteen international events takes place: the maximum expression of world motocross.

Since Saturday, the South American public has flocked to the Patagonia track in large numbers, where we find the two racers of the SM ACTION team: Alberto Forato for the premier class, the MX1, and Cornelius Tondel in the MX2. After Saturday’s practice, where Forato obtained the fifteenth place at the gate, he lined up at the start for the qualifying race and managed to confirm the same position also in the race. For Tondel, who lines up at the gate in fourteenth place, a good eleventh place in the qualifying race, which acquires greater importance in the 2023 championship, that with the new regulation it was decided to assign points also in this Saturday competition.

On Sunday, where the Patagonian public warms up creating an incredible atmosphere, we find Tondel in twenty-ninth position due to a bad fall in which he also suffers the breaking of two ribs, while in race two the Norwegian rider grits his teeth and finishes in sixteenth position. The sum of these two performances gives him the nineteenth place of the day.

In the premier class, the MXGP, Forato is first of the Italians in race one, which ends in ninth position ahead of his compatriot Mattia Guadagnini. Position that he fails to repeat in race two, where at the checkered flag we find him in thirteenth position, thanks to a constant race.

We will meet again the bearers of the SM ACTION team, flanked by teammates, for the second stage of the world championship in Sardinia, in Riola Sardo on March 26th.
