Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Shimoda Returns to Finish Fourth in Atlanta

Atlanta Highlights:

  • Jo Shimoda made his 2023 debut in Atlanta
  • Shimoda qualified fourth and Chris Blose qualified ninth
  • Blose and Shimoda were fifth in their respective heat races

Shimoda almost reached the podium in fourth and Blose was seventh

ATLANTA (April 16, 2023) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Jo Shimoda came back from injury in a big way by nearly grabbing a podium at the Monster Energy Supercross’ Eastern Regional 250SX Round 7 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. His fourth-place finish was a great start to his year, while teammate Chris Blose followed suit with a solid finish in seventh place.

The day started nice and early for the crew, who lined up for first practice just after 8:00 a.m. Once both qualifying practices were in the books, Shimoda found himself in fourth – a strong start to his return. When the gate dropped for his heat race, Shimoda was in a good spot but went down a few turns later on the slick, newly watered track, coming back from outside the top nine to finish fifth. The main event saw Shimoda get a mid-pack start and he pushed early to move into the top 10 after the first half of the lap. When he was only five minutes in, Shimoda had made his way up to fifth. After fourth crashed out, Shimoda inherited the spot and raced it to the checkered flag, finishing less than four seconds behind the podium.

“It felt so good to be back,” said Shimoda. “I had some moments here and there, but it was overall a great day. I haven’t been behind a gate drop in a long time and I’m just happy to get that first one out of the way. It’s all about getting better each week and I know I’ll have a challenge to come during next week’s east/west shootout.”

The season has been a steady assent for Blose, and Atlanta showcased the same consistency that fans have come to know from the rider out of Phoenix. Blose had a solid qualifying in ninth and earned fifth in his heat race. When Blose went around the first turn of the main event, he filed in just behind his teammate in 11th. He quickly made his way into the top 10, and by five laps in, Blose was seventh, where he held onto until the end of the race, almost catching sixth.

“It was good to be back after the month break,” said Blose. “It was definitely a different feel to race during the day and totally different dirt than what we’ve faced recently. With all the changes to the day, I’m happy with the effort, but I’m still pushing to break inside the top five before the end of the season.”
