JWR Honda Racing Powered by 24MX Opens Up the 2024 Season at the MXGP of Spain

We’re back! With the off-season behind us we’ve just finished the first proper race weekend of the year, 22-24.3.2024, at the already very familiar intu Xanadu circuit at the edge of the Spanish capital Madrid.  Stunning weekend all around with brilliant attendance numbers from the Spanish crowds in addition to the excellent weather reaching up to highs of 26 Celsius over the weekend was certainly memorable.

New year and new setup made the weekend tons of fun and very exciting too. Heading into Friday we came well prepared and shot some new motorcycle & rider photos with Alvin Östlund’s second year running for the JWR Honda team.  New starting test format on Friday proved a tad strange but something we’ll get used to.

Heading into the qualifications on Saturday, everything felt good and strong but the dry, deeply rutted hardpack proved difficult for Alvin, who finds comfort on sandy tracks, and struggled to put together a solid lap through the time practice, placing him 22nd for the RAM Qualification Race. Good start, but not quite finding a flow had Alvin improving slightly during the race, finishing 19th.

Good night’s rest and on to the race day. Alvin was feeling better heading into Sunday and managed two excellent starts in the races, even momentarily leading the pack. However, with the extra distance from the 19th gate in the corner, couldn’t quite make it for the holeshot either time. During the first race Alvin had some stomach issues as well which made racing generally difficult, ultimately pushing and finishing 18th.

For the second race the feeling was better and racing started going quite well, but pace was lacking slightly, bringing home another 18th place finish, ultimately being 19th overall with 6 World Championship points to take home. Now with the first gatedrops out of the way and the nerves starting to get out of the way we feel comfortable heading into Riola Sardo, Italy for the next Grand Prix in two weeks time.
